Dear Nature Enthusiast,
Welcome from the Friends of the Fredericksburg Nature Center (FFNC). I would like to tell you about our organization. We were granted corporation status in May, 2000 and received our 501(c)(3) status with the IRS a short time later. Our memberships now stand at 95; we hope you will consider joining our Friends’ organization. Our first project was to construct a nature trail in Lady Bird Johnson Municipal Park. The first phase of over 4,000 feet has been completed. We hope that you will come and hike this interesting path through a number of habitats typically found in the Hill Country. Our dream for the future is to have an interpretive center.
The nature trail area is home for a rich diversity of plants, insects and animals. Checklists are available on our website. We encourage our trail walkers to be observant and report species that we have overlooked, to add to our checklist’s inventory.
We are conducting monthly Nature Series programs during the school year. Last summer we also conducted two children’s programs at the park. The Nature Series programs occur on the second Tuesday at the Gillespie County Agricultural Building, 1906 North Llano Street (Texas Highway 16), beginning at 7:00PM. All meetings are open to the public at no charge.
Come be a part of the wonderful natural beauty of the Texas Hill Country. The Fredericksburg Nature Center and Lady Bird Johnson Park are the first stop on the Peach Loop of the Heart of Texas - West Wildlife Trail (HOTW 79) sponsored by the Texas Departments of Transportation and Parks and Wildlife. Please study our website and come see us in Fredericksburg.
